McCall, Idaho

After seven years of saying "we should probably do this", we're finally making it official. We'd love nothing more than to celebrate with the people who matter most — surrounded by mountains, pine trees, and a lake that doesn't care how long it took us to get here.

🍽

Seated Dinner

Saturday Evening

An intimate dinner to close the night — long tables, soft light, and the kind of unhurried conversation that's the whole point of getting everyone in one place.

🌄

Sunday in McCall

Sunday · August 2

Nothing on the schedule — just McCall and each other. For anyone staying on, it's a day to slow down, wander the lake, and soak up the mountains together.

Dress Attire Casual — whatever you're comfortable in. Mountain evenings get cool, so a layer is never a bad idea.

Travel & Lodging

Fly Into Boise

Boise Airport (BOI) is the closest major airport. Plan to arrive Thursday, July 30 so you can join us for the welcome dinner that night.

Rental Car

You'll want a car for the weekend. We recommend an SUV — the drive from Boise to McCall is stunning but winding, and you'll appreciate the extra space (and clearance) for lake days and hikes.

Lodging in Boise

For Thursday night after the welcome dinner, there are plenty of good options downtown and in the North End near our house. A few favorites: The Grove Hotel, Inn at 500, or any of the many Airbnbs in the North End — most of which are within walking distance to downtown Boise.

Drive to McCall

Friday morning, head north — under 2.5 hours via Highway 55, one of the most beautiful drives in Idaho. Follow the Payette River all the way up. Plan to arrive by late afternoon for the BBQ at The Retreat.

Weather

Early August in McCall: sunny days in the upper 80s, evenings dropping to the 50s. Bring a layer for after sunset — mountain air moves fast.

What to Pack

Layers, a swimsuit, something warm for evenings, and shoes you don't mind getting dusty. The dress code all weekend is comfortable.

Want to stay longer?

We're planning to hang around McCall through the following week and would love for anyone who can to stick around and explore with us. No pressure, no agenda — just more time in the mountains. Tell us what sounds fun in the Activities section below.

What to Do in McCall

McCall quickly earned a special place in our hearts — an alpine lake town tucked between the Payette and Salmon River mountains. It's the kind of place where mornings start with coffee on the dock and days end on a summit with nowhere else to be. Here's what we'd do with your time.

01
Lake Life
Payette Lake
Glacier-fed, clear as gin, and the heart of everything. Swim off the public docks or post up at the beach by the marina.
Paddle Boarding & Kayaking
Rentals are easy to grab in town. Mornings are glass — go early and you'll have the lake to yourself.
Ponderosa State Park
A peninsula of old-growth pine with quiet beaches, picnic spots, and the best easy trails in town.
In early August, the water has finally warmed up enough that it feels refreshing rather than shocking. Jump in.
02
Hiking & Exploring
Boulder Lake
Just 3 miles past The Retreat — the closest alpine lake you can reach on foot. A 3-mile out-and-back (or 6.4-mile loop if you want more) through pine forest with wildflower meadows and creek crossings, ending at a lake you'll want to swim in. Moderate, family-friendly, and the payoff is immediate.
Payette Rim
An 11.6-mile loop in the Bear Basin trail system that climbs above Payette Lake with sweeping views framed by the Lick Creek Mountains. Challenging, shared with mountain bikers, and best tackled with a packed lunch and an early start.
Ponderosa State Park
1,000 acres of old-growth pine on a peninsula jutting into Payette Lake. The Peninsula Trail is a flat, easy 4-mile loop with beach access along the way — the perfect morning walk with coffee in hand. More ambitious options climb to Osprey Point.
03
Biking & Adventure
Jug Mountain Ranch
The premier mountain biking network in the area — trails for every level, plus a good lunch spot at the base.
Brundage Mountain
Lift-served downhill in the summer, with trails that drop into views of the whole valley. Rent a bike at the base.
Tamarack Resort
About 45 minutes south on Lake Cascade — a full resort with downhill biking, a zipline, and big lake views.
04
Scenic Views
Brundage Summit
Ride the summer chairlift up for a 360° view of the Salmon River Mountains. On a clear day you can see halfway to Montana.
Osprey Point
A short walk inside Ponderosa State Park that ends with a bench, a view, and a whole lot of quiet.
Goose Creek Falls
A quick drive and a shorter hike to a full-bodied waterfall. Worth the detour.
05
Food & Coffee
North Fork Coffee Roasters
Locally roasted coffee done right — the place to start a slow McCall morning.
Alpine Pantry
Beautifully sourced deli and provisions — a perfect stop for picnic lunches, charcuterie, and anything you want to take to the lake.
Rupert's at Hotel McCall
Our pick for a proper dinner out — thoughtful menu, great wine list. Book ahead.
Salmon River Brewery
Casual, lively, excellent beer. The patio on a summer afternoon is its own reward.

Honestly — you really can't go wrong. Even a slow afternoon on the dock with a book counts as a McCall day well spent.

Activity Interests

If you're sticking around after the wedding, here are a few things we might organize as a group. Check whatever sounds fun — it just helps us gauge interest and rally people.

Stick around after the wedding?

We're hanging in McCall the following week and would love for you to join — swim, hike, eat, nap, whatever pace feels right. Zero pressure, totally optional, but we'd love the company.

Or names, if you're rolling deep.
Optional — handy if we need to coordinate with you.

Selections just help us gauge interest and rally groups — nothing here is a commitment.

Thank you

Got it — we'll be in touch as we pull weekend plans together.

Your being there is the only gift we're hoping for. Seven years in, we've already got the home, the dogs, and just about everything we need — except all of you in one place. So please, no gifts. Just bring yourselves to the mountains.
